Our drone-eye’s-view of the 100% affordable development shows how new life is being breathed into what was the former Stokes Forgings site in Brierley Hill.

The Cochrane Road development will not only provide much-needed affordable housing in the area, but is creating many local jobs in the construction industry as well as in the supply chain.

The first homes are set for handover next March and when complete the development will provide 132 homes, from one-bed apartments to four bedroom family houses.

Cochrane Road is part of our successful partnership with developers Countryside which is delivering 1,000 new affordable homes across the Midlands.

Chris Miller, Director of Development, said: “This development will turn a disused factory site into a mixed new community of much-needed affordable housing.

“As well as giving local people an opportunity to rent a quality home at a price they can afford, or to step on to the property ladder with shared ownership, our partners Countryside expect to create local jobs both in the construction industry and in the supply chain – a welcome boost in these uncertain times.”

Adam Daniels, Managing Director, Partnerships West Midlands, Countryside, added: “We’re pleased to further cement our strong partnership with Midland Heart through the provision of much-needed affordable housing in Brierley Hill – and we fully intend to use our presence on this project to support the Black Country economy with the creation of local jobs and the appointment of a local supply chain.”

The hammer forging plant closed just over a year ago and the land was quickly acquired for redevelopment. Work began with the demolition of the factory buildings and site clearance and already our development is taking shape with construction workers keeping safe by observing strict social distancing measures.
