144 affordable homes to be built in Leicestershire

We’ve legally completed and secured planning permission to build the new properties.

Midland Heart is set to start building 144 new homes at three different sites in Leicestershire, creating more affordable homes for people living in the area.

We’ve secured planning permission to build 49 homes at Cambridge Road in Whetstone under Blaby District Council, 18 at Barkbythorpe Road in Thurmaston under Leicester City Council, and 77 at Wolsey Road in Coalville under Northwest Leicestershire District Council.

The homes at Cambridge Road will be built in partnership with both Venture and Jessup, in which 32 properties will be available for affordable rent and 17 for shared ownership.

At Barkbythorpe Road, the homes will be built in association with Leicester-based property developers Modus Partnerships. Together, we’ll deliver 18 homes in Thurmaston in the greater Leicester area, with a mix of two and three-bedroom houses for affordable rent and shared ownership.

For the 77 homes at Wolsey Road, we’re working in collaboration with GEDA Construction to deliver a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and bungalows. The homes will form part of the wider Coalville regeneration plan – an initiative that aims to transform the area into a vibrant place where people and communities can thrive.

We’re delighted to be teaming up with Venture, Jessup, Modus Partnerships, and GEDA Construction on these different sites, with an aim of delivering more high-quality and affordable homes in the Leicestershire area.

Chris Miller, Director of Development at Midland Heart

Chris Miller, said: "All our homes will be offered at affordable rent and low-cost home ownership, which is great news for local people and families looking for a new home at a cost they can afford."

Construction of the new homes is expected to start in Autumn 2022, with the first homes ready by Christmas 2023.
